Cracked

The other day, I was getting ready to do some spell work.  I got out my trusty mortar and pestle, the black marble one I've had for nearly twenty years, and gave it a quick little rinse in the kitchen.  And the motherfucker cracked in half!

I knew it had some structural damage and with it being a device for heavy grinding and pounding, it was bound to finally fall apart *someday* but I wasn't expecting it to come apart in my hands right before I actually needed it.  You try grinding star anise pods in a half-there mortar and see how much fun that is.

So off I went to the Greatest Witch Shop Ever and picked up this gorgeous granite piece.

Me likey!

  1. How did that even happen? Structural damage or no, how did it crack from a rinse? I can imagine how shocked you must've been! The new piece is great, though!

  2. Sorry to hear about the loss of your old one; it's always sad when a beloved tool finally breaks. However, the new one is awesome! I got mine from the Salvation Army store; I found a set of three sizes for only 5 bucks, not too bad. They aren't as nice as your new one, though.
